The Oregon Community Foundation is presently recruiting for the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Interested candidates should submit resumes, cover letters and references by February 12, 2010.
Title: Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Reports to: President & CEO
Position Description Summary:
The COO has primary oversight for the implementation of the OCF strategic plan and will directly supervise the operational, fund services and administrative functions of the organization. The COO will act as a key member of the OCF management team and will report directly to the President.
Major Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Works in concert with the executive leadership team and the President to formulate, execute, adjust and evaluate the Foundation’s strategic plan. Holds primary responsibility for translating organizational vision and strategy into integrated operational tactics and strengthening the human and technical infrastructure needed to achieve OCF’s vision. Encourages the setting of clear goals and priorities and oversees the measuring of results to further OCF’s mission, optimize organizational effectiveness and efficiency and maintain a highly motivated and productive staff. Creates a dynamic, performance oriented and innovative work environment throughout OCF.
- Organizational Management: Directly supervises staff responsible for operations, fund services, and administration. Reviews department work and evaluates individual and department performance in relation to OCF’s strategic plan.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Works with senior leadership and staff on projects that require cross-functional cooperation. This includes development of strategy, plans and activities, design and oversight of major projects and coordination of cross-functional teams to achieve interdepartmental and/or Foundation objectives.
- Board Relations: Works with the President and Board Chair on department-related matters as appropriate, attending board and committee meetings as appropriate.
- Culture and Organizational Development: Works internally to maximize inter-departmental communication, effectiveness and coordination and to preserve and strengthen OCF’s operating culture. Ensures the creation and implementation of plans for ongoing development and retention of OCF’s leaders, employees and culture. Fosters and encourages excellent employee morale and open communications with/between all foundation staff necessary for the ongoing success of the organization.
- General: Other duties as assigned, dependent on organizational needs and employee skills.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 10-15 years experience managing operational, finance and/or administrative functions, preferably in a nonprofit or foundation environment of comparable complexity.
- Education: Master’s degree in business, nonprofit management or comparable field is preferred.
- Community Knowledge: Significant knowledge of Oregon’s nonprofit community is desirable, as is a demonstrated commitment to and passion for the state of Oregon and its communities. Also desirable is knowledge of the state’s civic and community leadership, statewide issues, and the ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituencies and diverse communities.
- Leadership: Demonstrated organizational leadership skills and a belief in servant leadership, which encourages collaboration, trust, listening, and the ethical use of power. Ability to lead and deliver results in a nonprofit or foundation environment. Demonstrated ability to build teams, organizations and healthy functioning cultures in a mission-based environment. Ability to act and be perceived as non-partisan both to internal and external constituencies.
- Supervision and Management Skills: Demonstrated skills in management, planning, staff supervision and staff development. Successful managerial experience in leading teams (including other managers) and mentoring/coaching staff. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a management system that creates clear expectations, accountability for results and regular feedback to employees/managers.
- Communication Skills: Superior interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to prioritize work effectively and adjust to multiple demands. Experience in creating realistic budgets and time lines.
- General: Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, participate as an effective team member and follow tasks through to completion.
