Environmental Education Program - Approved Grants Fall 2009

Audubon Society of Portland  (Portland) $5,000
for 250 students in Multnomah and Washington County schools to participate in a five-day outdoor school program, with funding contingent upon successful application for Metro's ODS funding

Canby School District  (Canby) $40,000
to send 280 6th grade students from Ackerman & Baker Prairie Middle Schools, along with 28 high school students, to the NWRESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Central Linn School District  (Brownsville) $7,500
to support a four-day, three-night residential outdoor camp for about 55 underserved 6th grade students, providing experiential science education in watershed and forest ecology while developing local capacity for sustainability of the program
 
Corbett School District  (Corbett) $3,500
to send 70 6th grade and 5 high school students to the MESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Crook County School District  (Prineville) $20,000
to provide all 270 Crook County 6th grade students with a week-long, residential, educational experience
 
Gervais Middle School  (Gervais) $10,000
for about 85 6th grade students to experience ecological learning and hands-on activities at the Oregon 4-H Center to increase environmental awareness
 
Gladstone School District 115  (Gladstone) $25,000
to establish a fund for 185 needy students to attend a five-day outdoor school
 
Gresham-Barlow Education Foundation  (Gresham) $20,000
to send 842 6th grade and 71 high school students to the MESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Jefferson Nature Center  (Medford) $20,000
for Finding Home, a year-long outdoor school program designed to increase student connection to their home environment through multiple associated experiences with a natural site
 
McMinnville School District  (McMinnville) $7,500
for all 110 5th grade students of Columbus Elementary School to attend a three-day, two-night outdoor science expedition at Twin Rocks Camp
 
North Clackamas School District  (Milwaukie) $5,000
to send 1,250 6th grade and 40 high school students to the MESD Outdoor School, OMSI, or other programs

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center  (Portland) $5,000
to support an outdoor school experience for 150 Marion County 5th and 6th grade students
 
Oregon City School District  (Oregon City) $10,000
for Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, to support a four-day, three-night outdoor school at Camp Magruder for 65 5th grade students
 
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry  (Portland) $30,000
to provide financial assistance to 18 Title 1 schools (540-900 students) to participate in a two-night, three-day OMSI Outdoor Science School session during the 09/10 school year, and to evaluate the impact on both students and teachers
 
Philomath School District  (Philomath) $7,750
for 90 student scholarships and high school student mentorships at Philomath's five-night Outdoor School
 
Polk Soil and Water Conservation District  (Dallas) $10,000
for two separate three-day, two-night outdoor school experiences offered to all 475 6th grade students in Polk County
 
Portland Public Schools  (Portland) $40,000

to send 3,680 6th grade and 930 high school students to the MESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Rainier School District  (Rainier) $7,000
for a week of outdoor school programming for 85-100 6th grade students
 
Seaside School District # 10  (Seaside) $12,000
to send 130 5th grade and 1-3 high school students to the NWRESD Outdoor School
 
Self Enhancement, Inc.  (Portland) $7,500
to send 50 6th grade students from the SEI Academy Charter Middle School to the MESD Outdoor School
 
Shasta Elementary School  (Klamath Falls) $10,000
to send 80 6th grade students to the NWRESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Silver Falls School District  (Silverton) $10,000
to send 100 5th and 6th grade students from four schools to the NWRESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
St. Helens School District  (St. Helens) $15,000
to send 260 6th grade and 25 high school students to the NWRESD Outdoor School over the 09-10 school year
 
Trillium Charter School  (Portland) $3,500
for the participation of 30 6th grade students in the six-day MESD Outdoor School
 
Wallowa Resources  (Enterprise) $15,000
for program support for Wallowa Resources' Explorations of Nature, a field-based science program for 5th through 8th grade students, and a program within Wallowa Resources - Wallowa Mountain Institute's Youth Stewardship Education Program
 
West Linn-Wilsonville School District  (West Linn) $10,000
to continue to expand, enhance, and sustain the CREST garden education program in order to connect students and teachers with the local community for 2009-2010
