Fall 2011 Community Grant Requests Related to Jobs and the Economy

$244,000 in 10 grants:

Grants for youth and adult workforce development

• Northeast Oregon Area Health Education Center, La Grande: $20,000 to expand the Future Health Professionals of Oregon program.  
• Portland Workforce Alliance, Portland: $21,000 to increase career-related learning experiences for Portland public school students from 6,000 to 7,000 students.
• p:ear, Portland: $20,000 to enhance a barista training program for homeless and transitional youth by moving the program to a space near Voodoo Donuts.
• Crook County/COCC Open Campus: $40,000 for videoconferencing equipment.
• Treasure Valley Community College, Ontario: $75,000 for construction of a new Science Center.

Grants to create new businesses and jobs

• Sustainable Valley Technology Group, Medford: $15,000 for the Sustainable Valley Business Accelerator, a regional business incubator for eight new businesses.
• Wallowa County Business Facilitation: $5,000 as a challenge grant. This organization has helped entrepreneurs create more than 100 jobs since 2000.

Grants for regional economic development

• Lake County Resources Initiative: $20,000 for bridge funding.
• TEAM Klamath: $10,000 to create a DVD focusing on economic development, business recruitment and tourism in Klamath County.
• Cottage Grove Economic and Business Improvement District: $18,000 to promote economic development and employment in Cottage Grove.
