For donors seeking an active role in grantmaking, you can establish a donor advised fund through The Oregon Community Foundation. With these funds, you can recommend specific nonprofit organizations you would like to receive grants from your fund.
Many donors tell us how satisfying it is to participate and personally direct charitable giving. They often mention the greater connection they feel to their communities.
Advised funds are also valued as the most efficient, cost-effective alternative to establishing a private or family foundation. These funds afford you tax benefits and help you avoid the administrative hassles associated with a private foundation. Our Donor Advised Funds Program is fully supported by our highly trained, professional staff. We assist both newcomers and experienced philanthropists in achieving their charitable wishes. As a donor in this program, you will have the opportunity to:
- Name your own charitable fund
- Realize your unique charitable giving goals
- Engage your family in philanthropy
- Identify key resources and organizations
- Learn about community issues and needs
- Connect and partner with other donors
The Power of Donor Advised Funds
In 2010, OCF donor advised funds granted over $25 million to nonprofit organizations across Oregon. These funds are a critical component of overall charitable giving in the state. Through the funds’ working partnerships with OCF's Community Grant Program, donors are part of an effective response to community need and help fund our statewide Initiatives and Programs, in such areas as the environment, early childhood education and the arts.
