This three-year $50,000-per-year grant supports development of a statewide "Child Care Quality Indicators" system. Under this system, standards of quality are measured for the first time in Oregon's child care homes and centers. The basis of evaluation includes easily observable markers such as training, compensation and group size.
The Quality Indicators Project will provide parents with more information for making child care choices, while also serving as a framework to target public and private funds for improvement. The system will be in place in every county in Oregon by January 2010.
