In collaboration with the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation of Seattle, OCF is supporting a three-year early literacy initiative of the Oregon Commission on Children and Families and the Oregon State Library. Between October 2008 and May 2011, Healthy Start home visitors and children's library staff members throughout Oregon will receive intensive training on sharing information on early literacy and language development with at-risk parents.
Visit the official website for Reading for Healthy Families to find more information about the initiative, including training schedules/locations and access to resources for children's programs.
For more information about the primary participants in this initiative, please visit the websites of the Oregon Commission on Children and Families and the Oregon State Library.
Healthy Start, a program of the Oregon Commission on Children and Families, is a voluntary family support and parent education home visiting program. It helps first-time families give their newborn children the best start in life.
Healthy Start offers all first-birth families, around the time their baby is born, free screening and information. Parents receive information on topics like child development, infant care and keeping their baby healthy, and learn about what’s going on in their communities to support new families.
If you have any questions about this program, feel free to contact Mary Louise McClintock, OCF Early Childhood Program Director, via email or at 503.227.6846.
