funding opportunity for community school programs

Bend, Or.:  The Oregon Community Foundation’s Central Oregon Leadership Council has announced the availability of up to $1 million in funds for school districts who would like to start a community school program or sustain one that exists in the region, which includes the Warm Springs Reservation and Crook, Deschutes, Jefferson, Sherman, Wasco, and Wheeler Counties.

Interested school districts are encouraged to apply. Instructions for submitting a proposal are available on The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) website: http://oregoncf.org/connect/rai. This is a competitive application process.  Proposals are due on January 15, 2010 and funding decisions will be announced in April, 2010.

To support this process, OCF is hosting a full day conference on community schools in Madras on Thursday, October 29, 2009.  Central Oregon community members have registered and plan to attend in teams of four to six people, ideally representing the education, nonprofit, government and business sectors.  At this time, registration is full, but school districts can still apply for the funding opportunity if they aren’t able to attend the conference.

This funding opportunity is a project of OCF’s Regional Action Initiative, a statewide three-year initiative designed to engage Oregonians in a new level of civic leadership to improve communities.
