Ing Family Fund

“I appreciate the fund’s flexibility.”

Fred Ing developed an appreciation for music at an early age. Though his career as an anesthesiologist took him in a different direction, music always remained important. “Music added another dimension to my life that I’m eternally grateful for,” he said.

When he retired, Ing wanted to give back to the medical community — and he wanted to share his love of music with others.

In 2000, he began making donations to various performing arts organizations and even set up a fund with an investment bank to serve his giving goals. But he soon realized that trying to grow his own fund for this purpose was going to take some time.

In 2005, Ing created a “step-up” fund with the Oregon Community Foundation, which enabled him to begin building the Ing Family Fund slowly over time.

“One of the advantages of setting up a fund with OCF is that they provide professional management and oversight,” Ing said. “They have an investment committee structure that contributes to sound decision-making.”

“I appreciate the fund’s flexibility,” Ing said. He and his family choose which organizations the fund will benefit. They can add beneficiaries and make changes at any time. Ing is excited to help his daughter Jennifer, who is 27, develop an understanding of charitable giving. He keeps her informed of where he is investing and why. “Once she finds an organization that she feels passionate about, we’ll add that to the fund, too.”
