“OCF donors give generously, but they also get back so much: strategic thinking, lower attorney bills, low administrative costs.”
Carolyn Miller, Carolyn Miller P.C.
Carolyn Miller is a true friend of the foundation – the kind that’s been there since the beginning, and tells others about your best traits.
Twelve years after founding The Oregon Community Foundation, William Swindells, Sr. wanted to leave a large portion of his estate to OCF in a charitable lead trust. Carolyn Miller, then working for Duffy Kekel LLP, helped make that happen -- and she’s been helping OCF ever since.
“I’m proud that I’ve worked on a number of limelight charitable gifts to the foundation,” said Miller. “It was exciting to help the foundation grow from $8 million to $20 million in a short time.”
Miller continues to bring clients and OCF together. According to Miller, one of the best things the foundation offers is the due diligence that volunteers and staff perform in researching nonprofit organizations. For example, if a client says, “I just want to help the homeless,” the OCF staff offers suggestions about the best organizations to support. That, coupled with long-term investment strategies and permanence, make OCF a strong partner.
“OCF donors give generously, but they also get back so much: strategic thinking, lower attorney bills, low administrative costs,” said Miller. “For the right client, OCF is absolutely a home run. The client gets everything they need.” Words spoken like a true friend.
