Disaster Response in the Philippines: Typhoon Haiyan

11/12/2013 Press Release

Super Typhoon Haiyan left a trail of massive devastation across the island nation on November 8. Initial reports estimate that as many as 10,000 people were killed and more than 9 million affected by one of the strongest storms in recorded history. Most roads are impassable due to flooding and debris, and communications have been cut off, making it difficult to assess needs and reach survivors in many areas of the hardest-hit Visayas region.

There is urgent need for clean water, sanitation, temporary shelter and food. The following are local organizations that are assisting in the Philippines. You can either donate on-line directly to these organizations or others assisting in the aid effort -- or via your Advised Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation.

Medical Teams International

Mercy Corps

Red Cross
