OCF Hosts Forum on the Future of Public Broadcasting in Oregon

10/10/2012 Press Release

On October 10, OCF hosted "Creating a New Landscape," a forum on the future of public broadcasting in Oregon. Held at the Ecotrust Building in Portland, the event was attended by staff and board members of public broadcasting organizations around the state as well as Foundation representatives. The Oregon University System was represented by Chancellor George Pernsteiner. OCF's president and CEO Max Williams opened the day-long event and introduced Congressmen Earl Blumenauer and Greg Walden, who both spoke about the opportunities for and challenges to public broadcasting.

Forum participants reaffirmed the role of public media in supporting civic discourse, strengthening community life, and providing access to media in all areas of the state. Discussions centered on the need to work together to ensure that these organizations can continue to fill that role. Suggestions for next steps included creating a structure to support a collaborative action plan.
